Skilled Visas

Overvew of Skilled Permanent Visas

There are a number of permanent residency visa options available to applicants with skills and experience that are in great demand in Australia.  All skilled visa applicants need to nominate an occupation that has been assessed as being in short supply.  There are various lists that help determine the priority in which a skilled visa is processed.  The lists include;

Critical Skills List (CSL)

Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL)

Skilled Occupation List (SOL)

The various skilled visa options allow applicants to gain sufficient points if unable to meet the basic skilled independent criteria.

Some of the most common skilled permanent residency visa pathways are;

  1. Skilled Independent

  1. Employer Sponsored

  1. Family Sponsored

  1. State/Territory Sponsored

Due the global financial crisis in March 2009 the Australian Government changed the priority processing allocation to skilled visas.  Currently applicants with a CSL occupation, an offer of State Government sponsorship of Employer Sponsored receive priority processing.  Skilled Independent and Family Sponsored are not being processed for the time being.
